Wollaston and Rochon Calcite Prisms

The prisms are produced from material free of striae and bubbles. The usable spectral range is 300 - 2200 nm (absorption of the ordinary beam occurs above 2µm). The two prism halves are cemented together. Deviation is less than about 1'. Flatness of the outer surfaces is λ/2 for λ = 550 nm. Deformation of a transmitted plane wave is less than 1 l. The extinction ratio of both beams is 10^-6. The polarization direction of both beams polarized perpendicular to each other is parallel and vertical to the refracting edge. The prisms with a 10mm cross-section are square in shape; above 15mm the cross-section is octagonal. The axis perpendicular entrance surface of Rochon prisms (which is mechanically very sensitive) is protected by a cemented covering plate of fused silica Suprasil with a flatness of λ/10.
